“On the ground,” documentary-style, with the sound engineer on an upcoming Paul Bowles-related flick

Given my stated interest in all things, Paul Bowles one might imagine my excitement at the news that there is a documentary being made right now in Morocco trying to re-trace a Paul Bowles travelogue around that country.  The maker of the film initially hoped that it would be a continuation of Bowles’ musical journey through North African Sufi culture, but as filming begins, the scope of the film has grown as well.  For those not obsessed with Paul Bowles and the activities of his creative friends and compatriots, here is a refresher course on Bowles and the many strands of connection with the Beat Movement of the 1950’s.  I was even more excited when I discovered that not only is Paul Bowles the subject of the film, but the soundtrack is going to be done by Bill Laswell, one of the most creative and prolific multi-instrumentalists and music producers of the late 20th century.  For an in-depth bio, this blog is the ground zero for all things Laswell.  I also read an interesting interview with Laswell today that provides a few nice opportunities to check out some of his music as well as dip into some of the many, many highlights of his prolific output.
